SWITCHING TRANSIENTS IN TRANSFORMER

Switching Transients: The word Transients is always very Scary for me but not any more hahaaa...........what about you???? Well coming to the point...why do these Switching Transients occur in a Transformer. When the switch is closed when the voltage is maximum...then the flux required by the core is zero and the available flux in the core is also zero and hence NORMAL OPERATION is sufficient When the switch is closed when the voltage is crossing zero...then the flux required by the core is maximum but here the avaliable flux in the core is zero and hence TRANSIENT OPERATION is required Here when the Transient operation takes place then the flux doubles gradually and this is known as Doubling Effect of Transformer. This Doubling Effect causes magnetic in rush current and Damage in the insulation. Using Secondary Harmonic Restraining Coil can reduce all these Drawbacks.

WHAT IS LINE(VOLTAGE,CURRENT) AND PHASE(VOLTAGE AND CURRENT)

Line and Phase: We all always have confusion between line and phase voltages....so now get some clarity here.... The issue of these line and phase voltages come into account only in case of 3-phase networks...that is either Star or Delta Consider the above star connection. Line Current:The current passing through the line that is IR,IB,IY are known as Line Currents. Line Voltage:The voltage across two lines of a star connection that is VRY,VBY,VBR are Line Voltages. Phase Current:The current passing through the Impedance that is IRN,IBN,IYN are Phase currents. Phase Voltages:The voltage across the impedance that is VRN,VBN,VYN are known as Phase Voltages. All these parameters are the same in case of Delta Connection also
